Les Violons du Roy
Thursday, March 04, 2010
*Ottawa**, **January 19, 2010* - Front + Centre and MIFO and are pleased
to announce Les Violons du Roy: Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons at the
Shenkman Arts Centre in Orléans on March 4, 2010.Tickets for this upcoming show go on sale to Front + Centre and MIFO members at noon on Thursday, January 21 and to the general public at noon on Monday January 25th .
Les Violons du Roy borrows its name from the renowned string orchestra that
played the royal courts of France. This chamber orchestra has a vast
repertoire, and its 15 musicians perform each piece in the stylistic manner
most appropriate to each era
Les Violons du Roy is well known throughout Canada, thanks to regular
appearances at music festivals and numerous concerts, as well as recordings
on CBC and its French-language counterpart, Radio-Canada. The group made its
European debut in 1988 and has since performed dozens of concerts in
France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Spain and the Netherlands, often in
the company of internationally renowned soloists such as Magdalena Kožená,
David Daniels and Vivica Genaux.
Following a performance in Washington in 1995, the group began to acquire
an American following and has since regularly appeared in New York,
Chicago and Los Angeles. The high point of the 2009-2010 season has been a
U.S. tour to perform Haendel's Messiah and Bach's Christmas Oratorio with
La Chapelle de Québec, a renowned choir and an outstanding array of
soloists. The tour has taken them to New York City's Carnegie Hall and the
Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. These performances have received
remarkably positive reviews in both the New York Times and the Los Angeles
Times.
For over a quarter-century, Les Violons du Roy's interpretation of
Vivaldi's Four Seasons has wowed audiences, and their performance in
Ottawa is a must-see event for music lovers. Under the direction of
harpsichordist Richard Paré, one of the group's founders, the orchestra's
female musicians will take turns giving solo performances as the seasons
roll around. This will allow the audience to appreciate the fine talents of
violinists Pascale Gagnon, Pascale Giguère, Nicole Trotier et Véronique
Vychytil.
Tickets to Front + Centre performances are available at
www.shenkmanarts.ca or by calling 613-580-2700 (Toll-free 1

Theatre goers are advised to visit the websites often to get updates. All
shows dates and times are subject to change and more stellar shows will be
added to the Front + Centre schedule as leading national and international performers become available.
